Who are foot care nurses? Foot care nurses are LPN's or RN's registered with the College of Nurses of Nova Scotia who have taken additional training specializing in the care and maintenand of feet.
Who should see a foot care nurses? Ideally, everyone can benefit from nursing foot care, but more specifically those who have difficulty reaching their feet or trimming their nails, low vision, individuals who have foot complications such as: corns, calluses, thickened nails, pressure concerns, or individuals who have diabetes, poor circulation, history of foot ulcers, arthritis, sports injuries, or autoimmune disorders.
How often is routine foot care performed? Typically clients come every 6-8 weeks, but it depends on personal preference and how fast or slow your nails grow.
How should I prepare for my appointment? Have the following information ready for your first appointment: 1) Your medical history, including your current medications. 2) Your health card number (used only as a second client identifier) 3) Ensure your toe nails are free of nail polish, I cannot remove gel or shellac polishes. 4) Do not soak your feet, foot care is done on clean dry feet.
How long will my appointment be? Your initial foot care appointment will be approximately 1.5 hrs. This includes a full assessment of your lower legs and feet, as well as the care your feet need. Subsequent visits are usually between 45 mins to 1 hr.
Do you provide receipts? Yes, I provide written receipts with the clinic information and my provider number stamped on them.
Is foot care covered by my insurance? Foot care services are often covered by many insurance policies, but each insurance plan is different, so it is best to check with your insurance company. If you look it up online under your account it is likely listed under "Nursing Services" if you have coverage. I am a registered Blue Cross and Manulife provider.
What are the accepted payment methods? I accept cash and etransfer.
Do I need a referral from my doctor to receive care? Referrals are not needed to access my services, but you may need your doctor's referral to have it covered by your insurance company.
